Everyday Action Plan

I signed up for The List Serve, because I am fascinated by people. Not like a creepy stalker, simply because I find human nature interesting. I enjoy learning about other peoples perspectives and what motivates them in life. What is The List Serve you ask? It is an experimental site set up by a team of grad students from New York University ITP. They are compiling an email list, in which one subscriber is randomly selected each day to send an email to the entire list.  They promise not to use your email for anything other than selecting the one email lottery winner. If your name is selected, you have three days to respond with your submission. (The email you send out does not disclose your email address… unless you want to disclose it.) Also, you have the option to take yourself off the list, at a later time.  Currently, there are roughly 81 different countries being represented by someone on The List.

I just got my first email two days ago. It was from a person living in Sweden, named Emil. He shared an interesting idea that I thought was worth sharing with you.

First, he broke the news that for most of us, life won’t be that fantastic. I don’t agree with that exactly. I would agree, for most of us life will be, and is, pretty ordinary. The ordinary can be fantastic, in my opinion, and apparently so does he. He suggests taking those not so fantastic moments in your life, and make them fantastic. Don’t allow them be wasted opportunities, take Everyday Actions.

This is his Everyday Action List:

Challenges: Brush your teeth with the opposite hand you usually do.
Mind Games: When you enter a room, imagine the sound “KAABAAAM!” As if your presence changed the whole room. (I could do that!)
Action: Jump down from the sidewalk instead of just stepping down.
Changes: Buy some fancy tomato sauce tonight, instead of the usual brand.
More Action: Count the number of pink things on your way to work, as if your life depended on it.

Having an Everyday Action Plan can be fun, and the beauty of it, you can change it from day to day or week to week.

What will your Everyday Action Plan “BE”?

For starters, I’m going to imagine the sound of the sherwood forest trumpets when I enter a room...

Getting my feet wet, just like a Byrd

For those who know me, know this Vlog is waaayyyyy out of my comfort zone. I am the type of person that feels most comfortable working in the background. I don't like being on stage and in front of a crowd. Public speaking, frightens me! With that being said, I also believe...  "The only evidence of life is growth" -John Henry Newman. We must grow to have life and this will almost always require us to go outside our comfort zone. So, with the inspiration of my friend Teralyn from Bit of Byrd (go check out her vlogs... love them. They always make me smile) I am attempting my first Vlog for you. Going out of my comfort zone to grow a little bit more... I invite all of you to do so as well. I also took her lead in Vlogging while driving, it's a good distraction from just facing the camera head on.

Now that you know why I'm doing this, I just have to say a few more things before you watch.

Do I really sound like that!!??

And those glasses... oy vey. There is a story behind them. Most of my money is spent on my family, one way or another... almost never on myself. It's a mother thing, I think. So one day, I decide I am going to buy myself a hipper, newer pair of sunglasses, just for me! Isn't it my luck, I lost them within a week of buying them! So I went back to my old, can't get lost if I tried sunglasses.

Now enjoy the show....

                                             video

Ok... now that you have seen it, I need to add a some more information. I don't think that's the purpose when you Vlog, but heck, I'm living outside the box now.

A million jobs... Yes really. No exaggeration. I failed to mention the one where I am a Family Manager (I honestly listed this as my occupation on the Town Survey, when I was a SAHM) and a Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations, and everything that entails!

Also, although I work a million jobs, my kids can never shake me!  I am so grateful and feel so blessed to have the job at the school. You see, I stayed at home with my children while they were infants and toddlers, up until the point my youngest child was in school full days. Then, by the grace of God, this job opened up at the school. The same school/district my children attend. This allowed me to make some money, while still being on the same time schedule they are. When they have a school vacation week, I have a school vacation week. When they have a snow day, I have a snow day. It has given me the opportunity to still be with them, when I need to be.

In conclusion, I'm not sure I will Vlog on a regular basis... because as you can see, I still write, within my Vlog. That may be against the rules... not sure, but I think so.

What will you be doing to grow... the thing that gets you out of your comfort zone?

Please share it with us in the comments. Encouraging us on our path to "BE" who we truly are!
